Weekly Comms Roundup 8 June – 12 June 2020

A brilliant story that emerged this week was how the big tea brands in the UK, PG Tips and Yorkshire Tea, voiced their support for the Black Lives Matter movement by tweeting messages of solidarity against racism. Yorkshire Tea kicked it off by tweeting far-right vlogger Laura Towler and saying “please don’t buy our tea again” in response to her applauding the company for not (at the time) speaking out against racism https://bbc.in/2USgWvR

The long-awaited PlayStation 5 has generated much discussion on social media this week, as images of the new console were launched online on Thursday. The new console’s sleek design impressed and generated a lot of excitement amongst fans, who will have to wait a little longer to work out if they can afford it, as the price is yet to be named. https://bbc.in/2C0sxSQ

The 13th June is World Gin Day, and to mark the occasion Bulldog Gin have teamed up with DJ Mag to host a virtual house party! The online event will replace the real in-person festival events the brand would have hosted in the summer which obviously won’t be happening now, with consumers encouraged to join on their social media platforms from 6pm to 10pm. The event is being held in aid of independent music charity Nordoff Robbins, with viewers encouraged to make donations during the event. https://bit.ly/3fbtyWm

High-end department stores Selfridges are set to re-open their stores next week, with measures such as personal after-hours shopping trips, online beauty apartments and entertainment for those queueing outside. All of this is part of the chain trying to offer ‘joyful experiences’ to shoppers who have not been able to visit their stores for weeks. https://bit.ly/3hl0ZHQ
