Weekly Comms Roundup 13 April – 17 April 2020

We need to talk about 99 year-old Captain Tom Moore, who raised over £19m this week by walking 100 laps around his garden. Amazingly, Captain Tom’s initial target was to raise a grand, but his journey has catapulted him to ‘hero’ status, with celebrities like Beckham, Skelton, Hamilton and more praising his efforts in special social media posts this week! The money will help in the fight against the Coronavirus – thank you Captain Tom! https://bbc.in/3bu4B6Y

Cyclist Geriant Thomas is thinking along similar lines to Captain Tom, by announcing he will replicate the activity/fundraising effort by cycling 12-hour days to match the incredible effort NHS workers are putting in at the moment, for three consecutive days! He had raised over £200,000 at the time of writing. https://bit.ly/3bloIUU

Budweiser have come up with an inventive scheme to save the pubs during the coronavirus crisis. As there will be no income for UK pubs in the foreseeable future as the nationwide lockdown was extended this week, Budweiser Brewing Group have launched the #SavePubLife campaign to try and support Britain’s pubs, which offers the public the chance to buy a gift card for up to £100, which you can use upon entering your local once again. This gift card will then be matched by Budweiser, so the pub receives a much-needed cash injection, supporting some of the UK’s smaller businesses. https://bit.ly/2wN4yEt

L’Oréal has teamed up with RB and Essity to encourage consumers to steer away from the perils of panic-buying. The “Shop responsibly” campaign, created by Publicis Groupe UK, features bright yellow stickers that advise stressed shoppers to support NHS and elderly shopping hours, both of which have been implemented amid a surge in supermarket sales. Unsurprisingly, the work also invites shoppers to stay “two metres apart”, as advised by chief medical officer Chris Whitty. https://bit.ly/2xrIFuN
