Weekly Comms Round-Up 8th – 12th February 2021

P1C News

Our family is expanding! Thanks to a very fortunate start to the year with new clients and projects on board, we are now on the hunt for new talented members to join our fantastic social media and content teams. Get in touch if you are interested, or know someone who would be:

Social Media

Instagram has trialled hiding likes on the social platform across various countries to allow followers to focus on what they’re sharing rather than the number of likes they’re getting. It seems the social platform has stepped it up with the trials and is now giving people the option to decide whether they want to hide their likes or not, rather than it being a default setting. We wonder what insights will be gained from this new development.

There’s nothing more frustrating than waiting for a webpage to load, so Google has stepped in with its new Page Experience feature that will be rolled out in May 2021. The update will put a ‘speed badge’ on search results and lower the rank of any sites that do not meet Google’s thresholds for the Core Web Vitals. Let’s hope the ‘badge of shame’ will kick some sites into gear!

Heard of the new Clubhouse app? It’s an exclusive audio-only social media platform acting as a hub of chatrooms and podcast like chats. The invite-only platform is currently teeming with celebs, but once invited you can eavesdrop on, or join in with, conversations that are already happening, or start one of your own. Sounds like the must-have social app of 2021, now if only we could get an invite…

Ad Campaign

Ever teetering on the edge of inappropriate, M&S has once again launched a sweet treat with a tongue in cheek name that has a romantic twist. For Valentine’s Day shoppers can add the “Love Nut Yumnut” to their baskets to step up the romance levels. Will you be biting into one this weekend?

Going Viral

A Texas lawyer was the latest to fall victim to a video-call blunder when he appeared as a fluffy white cat before a judge during a court debate. Lawyer Rod Ponton was heard announcing that he was in fact “not a cat” only adding to the hilarity of the situation. We’re sure this won’t be the last Zoom mishap we’ll see!

We know we’re a nation of baked beans lovers, but would you go so far as to put them on Weetabix? The now viral tweet from the breakfast brand stated “why should bread have all the fun, when there’s Weetabix?” sparking many witty responses from brands and organisations across the country. Scroll through the thread if you need a chuckle!
