Although 2021 is already speeding by (and we are grateful to be as busy as ever), we wanted to take a moment to look back on 2020 and all that we achieved in what was an unpredictable year.
From the get-go, we were occupied with preparing for The London Classic Car Show 2020 and spent January visiting incredible car dealers where our Senior Social Media Manager, James, became one with the classic cars! The event was hosted at Olympia in February with an incredible turnout of classic car enthusiasts. Daisy, our Senior Account Manager, even met and interviewed the renowned David Gandy proving the event to be a huge success! Little did we know this would be one of very few events to take place in 2020.
The whole team was car crazy as even our design team was squirrelling away on a new logo design and website for Car Fest ahead of the upcoming events. Meanwhile, they cracked on with the design and branding for First Tier Consultants’ website (you should check it out, it looks great!). In February they also started working on branding and a website for Argo – back when we could still meet people in the office – sigh.
Speaking of seeing people, in February we also pitched to FluidOne after a quick meeting on a train (yes, really) and have enjoyed working with them throughout 2020 despite not being able to meet anyone but the CEO in person! Here’s to hoping we can change that in 2021.
Our other last few face-to-face meetings in 2020 were with FEC , who we met for the first time in February and have welcomed to our portfolio this year, and our Board Advisor Sean Emery, who also came to visit that same month. Sean visited us again in March from South Africa, with plenty of snacks in tow (thanks Sean!), but almost became stranded in the UK as travel restrictions came into place, luckily he made it back just in time. Phew!
Then, of course, lockdown descended upon us as Covid-19 cases began to rise globally, and hugely impacted all businesses, especially our friends within the events and hospitality industries. Unfortunately, many of our clients within these industries had to pop the breaks on, but we are delighted to be full steam ahead for 2021. The social media plans we had for CarFest were put on hold, as the event was sadly cancelled, however we’re back driving things forward with the team for the 2021 edition. The launch of Foundry in Dubai also faced delays due to the virus – but it has since opened, and you should certainly take a look.
In March, we kicked off a campaign with FluidOne, topically focused on home working and have since worked with the team to maintain comms with different customers, announce the acquisition of new businesses, host webinars and much more!
Like the rest of the nation, in April we became swept up in the Zoom quiz craze with various quiz masters and challenges keeping us on our toes. Nothing like a “make your own movie poster” round to test our team’s creativity! We think they each get top marks for effort – check them out below.
CBD seemed to be the flavour of the month for April as we took on a trio of exciting clients offering various CBD products, including a rebranding and product packaging project for Eco 710. In May our talented design team took on a rebranding project for Skin Medical, leading independent skin care specialists, as well as building a brand new website. Fast forward to June, where we began working on the first (ever) digital version of the London Indian Film Festival with all hands on deck. In the same month, conversations with Getvov planted a seed that has since bloomed into our fantastic eco-friendly client.
We were impressed with how quickly our friends at Aldenham School adapted to the new routine of home learning and were blessed with buckets of content to use. A dream situation for the social media team! We also worked on some amazing virtual open day events that showcased the school’s incredible offering to prospective parents and their children from the comfort and safety of their own homes.
Halfway through the year, we welcomed Alice as Communications Assistant & PA to our MD to the P1C family – we don’t know where we would be without our Head of Happiness, well we do, but let’s not think about that. Shortly after we expanded our team even further, welcoming Saf, Communications Executive, and Francesca, Social Media Manager, to the team who bring a wealth of knowledge and experience in social media and content. Then a little while later Creative Designer Jess joined us with ample talent to share across a variety of clients.
In August we relocated from our Shoreditch office in London to Guildhall, and also opened a brand new office in Windsor that sits on the doorstep to the castle where we can wave to the Queen! To keep everyone safe, we enjoyed our new spaces on a part-time basis, splitting our time between working from home and the office. The sunny August weather provided the perfect opportunity for socially distanced work lunches in local parks, and we can’t wait to get back to them soon.
This month saw us welcome a rockin’ brand to our portfolio with Hard Rock Cafe working across organic and paid social media strategies to bring their legendary burgers and rock n’ roll vibes to a wide global audience. We got under the skin of the brand and have been delivering puntastic social content since.
OCR Park, an obstacle race course located in Abu Dhabi, came on board as a new social media client in August with lots of prep work put in place ahead of the November launch. Reaching English and Arabic speaking audiences each post has been carefully translated into both languages!
We hosted a range of informative webinars, such as one hosted with FluidOne and Samsung to introduce The Samsung Knox Suite and how it had been designed to address the most common challenges that organisations face when deploying mobile technology. Our Senior Social Media Manager, Candy, worked hard on pulling together social content and newsletters to drive attendees and it was a huge success!
We were delighted to hear that Dubai Design Week 2020 was still able to take place whilst adhering to Covid-19 guidelines. We began working right away in August to put our plans in place with just enough time.
In other event news, we also welcomed back The Classic Car Show and prepared for its first The Classic Car Drive-In Weekend at Bicester Heritage in September. It was a tight turnaround, but nothing we can’t handle here at P1C – especially when it’s so much fun to work on. It was the ideal event to host whilst staying Covid-safe as each guest was able to see cars on the track, meet car clubs from all over the country, take part in an auction and watch some classic films from the comfort of their cars.
In September, we unveiled the rebrand of corporate advisory and broking business Egremont Capital with a new website and look forward to seeing the business grow in its next chapter and continuing to work with them. Our design team was kept busy with a logo redesign for Tokenhouse and also pulled together some brilliant brand guidelines and website design outlines to help elevate the business.
Unfortunately, in October Covid-19 cases began to rise, so we decided to migrate back to working from home full-time to ensure everyone’s safety – but, this didn’t mean we took our foot off the gas pedal! Carfest Camp and Carfest Retro launched giving our design team the chance to reveal the new logos and design work they had been busy working on to promote the exciting events.
FluidOne secured its acquisition of PSU in October, so we drafted the necessary comms to share the announcement, securing great pieces of coverage. It was a fantastic step for FluidOne towards reaching its vision, and we’re glad to be on board for the ride.
November saw Karen, Group MD, and Daisy take a trip to sunnier climes for Dubai Design Week, Downtown Design Dubai and Global Grad Show which the team had been working tirelessly on producing top content. The events were a huge success and carefully adapted to be in line with Covid-19 safety guidelines. Meanwhile, our designers completed work on a delightful festive colouring book for RGS Guildford Dubai to give the little ones a creative activity to enjoy across the season.
After working on Hard Rock Cafe for a couple of months, we took over content creation for the brand social media channels and have been craving juicy burgers ever since! We’ve been pulling together full social plans including reels, story quizzes and paid campaigns to bring their classic Hard Rock flavours to wider audiences.
In December, we announced Getvov to UK media as the go-to online marketplace for all things vegan, organic and vegetarian. The team started getting all of their (vegan) ducks in a row for Veganuary with exciting competitions and content in the pipeline. We also managed to squeeze in a Covid-safe festive team meet up, complete with secret Santa, Christmas lunch and compulsory festive jumpers. It provided a fantastic chance to reconnect face-to-face (albeit 2 meters apart) and we hope to be able to have more fun team outings in 2021.
As you can see, it was a wild and busy year for P1C and we expect much the same for 2021 with high hopes for it to be our best year yet!
