Dennis the Menace Talks Internet Safety in EE Campaign
EE has teamed up with an unlikely character in a bid to raise awareness on internet safety amongst children. Dennis the Menace, hailing from the timeless comic series Beano, is on a mission to educate parents on how to keep their children safe online.
The special edition of the comic illustrates possible scenarios between Dennis and his cousin Minnie, educating the viewer on the dangers of the internet, such as befriending strangers posing as celebrities, or engaging in cyber-bullying.
It was launched after a poll of 1,000 parents with children aged 6-18 found 60% were concerned their children didn’t know how to protect themselves online. EE also concluded that 46% of those parents didn’t know enough about the dangers to warn their children about it.
To address the concerns found from the poll, EE has created the ‘PhoneSmart Licence’, an online course to educate children on how to stay safe and behave online. Whilst it’s impossible to stop children engaging with the online world, at the very least, there can be resources in place to shed light on what can happen and how to avoid harm that could come about from a lack of awareness.
Animation has always been a popular way to convey important messages to younger people, and this promo is a great way to start the conversation between parents and children – especially using a character as classic as Dennis!
