P1C Friday Finds Round-Up: 15th-19th March 2021

P1C News

Phew! Another busy week for P1C with plenty of onboarding calls with new clients and projects. We are fortunate to be in the middle of an exciting growth period and have enjoyed getting under the skin of new brands we’re working on. The team can’t wait to get started!

Social Media

Following the popularity of Reels on Instagram, Facebook is now also testing the feature in a bid to beat TikTok at its own game. Users can share Reels created on Instagram to the Facebook app, and also create short videos using Facebook’s own tools. The feature is currently being tested in India but is expected to be released globally later this year. Is Facebook once again jumping on the bandwagon a little too late?

How can social media help people get vaccinated against COVID-19? A few different ways! Facebook has launched a new tool providing users information about where to get a vaccine, Instagram has a new COVID Information Centre and WhatsApp is working directly with health authorities and governments to get people registered for vaccinations. It’s interesting to see the social media giants take responsibility for such an important task and help stop the spread of misinformation.

TikTok’s ad targeting will be more aggressive from 15th April following changes to the company’s personalised ads policy. Currently, you can opt out of receiving personalised ads on the app, however, with the new policy, personalisation will soon be mandatory. Ads are a key part of TikTok’s growth, and it’s clear that businesses want to get a slice of the pie with advertiser interest and spend on the platform skyrocketing!

Ad Campaign

The Dulux dog is turning 60! The Old English Sheepdog has been a mascot for the brand for the past 60 years, which is also celebrating its 90th anniversary. To celebrate and capitalise on the lockdown-inspired decorating boom, Dulux has launched a campaign targeted at consumers adapting to a new post-pandemic lifestyle with a particular focus on renters who are often under the guise that they can’t decorate. Turns out, as long as you check with your landlord and put everything back before you move out, you can paint your home into a rainbow.

Brompton Bicycle’s ‘I’m getting ON’ campaign promoting cycling amongst London’s older population came runner up in TfL’s Diversity in Advertising competition to flip outdated stereotypes on their head. The campaign shows that it’s never too late to get on a bike and enjoy the freedom of cycling. With the weather warming up, we think it’s time we got on our bikes too!

Tip Of The Week

Write first, edit later. When faced with tackling long-form copy such as a whitepaper, case study or even a blog post just the thought of the task at hand can seem a little daunting. The best way to get over the initial hurdle is to simply start! Jot down key points and messages that you need to hit and flesh it out from there.
